They are used by almost everyone on this planet every day, either directly or indirectly.
These algorithms are a part of search engines, e-commerce websites, social media feeds, e-mailing systems, financial systems, computer file systems, databases, data analysis tools, navigation services, operating system operations and more. They are everywhere.
Despite their popularity and much research, over the years, we have reached a mark where human experts cannot further optimize these algorithms.
